Self care as a radical act

  • Location: Online
  • Type: Masterclasses
  • Date: 30/11/2021
  • Time: 9:30am - 11:00am

This interactive and inspiring session invites people of colour into a safe space where we will explore the impacts of racism and exclusion upon our mental health and the ways in which self care can be embraced as everyday maintenance, rather than a luxury.

Together we will discuss and understand racial battle fatigue and the ways in which it has shown up for many people during the last 18 months, in which the lives of people have colour  have been  disproportionately impacted by both the pandemic and racial trauma.

Emma Mainoo used to be a Brand Marketing consultant. For years this work saw her working at senior level on a global stage, which brought great professional reward, but at the same time Emma was hiding in plain sight as she battled often with anxiety and depression.

In 2012 Emma experienced a breakdown, which saw her face the things that she had been hiding from for most of her life and at her lowest point, she decided to fight and went on a healing journey through therapy, self care practices and alternative healing.

She is now a certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor and  the Head of Utopia’s Mental Health practice.
